Stonemans Funeral Service

Stoneman funeral Service was established in 1865 and is now a fifth generation family business. It was founded by John Stoneman who moved from south Devon to Redhill with his family to establish a firm of funeral furnishers, cabinet makers, upholsterers and builders.

In 1932 an office was opened at 49 Bell Street, Reigate, which is still in use today, and houses the memorials showroom. Families can also make funeral arrangements in private at this office.

In 1952, Doran Court was acquired and converted into a funeral home providing extensive facilities to assist in providing a first class comprehensive service. It was also at this time that Stonemans started working with Mr. Eddie Stephens of Galyers Funeral Directors in Godstone, providing additional staff, vehicles etc.

When Mr. and Mrs. Stephens retired in 2000, Stonemans continued trading as Galyer and Co, acquiring 45 High Street, Godstone, with the addition of 47 High Street in 2003.

A private chapel of rest was opened in October 2003, with a service of dedication, which was attended by many of the local clergy.
